GIVE YOUR HOME, BUT LIVE THERE FOR LIFE — RETAINED LIFE ESTATE

Many of our supporters can't imagine living anywhere else but their current homes. Many would also love to make a major gift to St. Jude Memorial Foundation but don't have the means to make such a gift today. If this sounds like you, you may want to consider a charitable giving arrangement called a retained life estate.

That's exactly what one of our most generous donors, Kay McCarty, decided to do. The St. Jude Katherine T. McCarty Breast Center was named for Kay after she made a pledge of support that included current cash gifts, a bequest component, plus a retained life estate. Kay enjoyed her home and garden and intended to live there for the rest of her life. She deeded her Fullerton home in Fairway Village to St. Jude in 2007, received a tax deduction, and lived in her home until she passed away in April of 2012. St. Jude was then able to sell the property and use the proceeds to support the Breast Center.

With a retained life estate, you deed your personal residence, vacation home, or farm to St. Jude Memorial Foundation now. You retain the right to occupy the home for life and you continue to pay the taxes, maintenance, and insurance on the property. In addition, you can later decide to rent your home or make improvements to it. After your lifetime, St. Jude takes possession of the property.
