A LASTING LEGACY: GENEROUS BENEFACTORS PRESENT ST. JUDE MEDICAL CENTER WITH THE LARGEST SINGLE DONATION TO DATE

St. Jude Memorial Foundation is proud to announce it has received the largest single donation to date, a $3 million outright gift. The donation comes from the estate of philanthropists Harold and Henrietta Lee of Buena Park, and will be applied toward future projects at St. Jude Medical Center.

"We feel so blessed that Mr. and Mrs. Lee chose St. Jude as the recipient of this extraordinary gift," says Lee Penrose, President and CEO , SJMC. "Mrs. Lee was once a patient at St. Jude Medical Center, and is a shining example of the difference a dedicated, grateful patient can make. This donation will allow us to proceed with confidence into the future and continue to bring the best facilities and highest quality care to the communities we serve."

After losing Harold to cancer in 1990, Mrs. Lee began donating to cancer causes and research facilities. Mrs. Lee passed away from natural causes in June 2008 at the age of 94. In addition to her $3 million bequest, a gift of land will be given to St. Jude, bringing the total value of the donation to an estimated $8 to $9 million.
