A LIFETIME OF SERVICE AND GENEROSITY

A LIFETIME OF SERVICE AND GENEROSITY

In loving memory of Arloah and Thomas Artingstall

With over three decades of support provided to Providence St. Jude Memorial Foundation, the late Thomas and Arloah Artingstall's legacy is marked not only by their professional success but by the impact they have made as philanthropists.

The Artingstall family called Yorba Linda home for the majority of their 47-year marriage. Arloah, an Idaho native, moved to Southern California for college. Her passion for education led her to a 35-year tenure as an elementary and special education teacher. Originally from Chicago, Thomas spent his career in the Air Force and electronic research, working closely with NASA. Within their respective career paths and throughout their marriage, the couple regularly dedicated their time and resources to the wellbeing of others.

The gift of giving

Following her retirement from teaching, Arloah began volunteering at Providence St. Jude's Appearance Center, helping patients cope with the challenges of their cancer diagnosis and recovery. After Arloah personally experienced a rare cancer diagnosis several years into volunteering, the couple became even more motivated to contribute toward the mission of Providence St. Jude.

The Artingstalls demonstrated this commitment by establishing three charitable gift annuities during their lifetime and a generous bequest within their revocable trust. The couple elected to donate unrestricted gifts to the Foundation to address the community's most pressing needs.

"We know Providence St. Jude is an ongoing facility that will continue to help people and always need funding." Arloah explained in an interview before her passing. For the Artingstalls, the value of charitable giving extended much further than financial benefits. Arloah shared, "The feeling you get when you're able to give is much better than any other feeling we know."

Debbie Jones, a close family friend and trustee of the Artingstall estate, recalled a memory that encapsulated the Artingstall's compassionate and giving nature. When Debbie began providing daily care to her mother who was diagnosed with a brain tumor, she learned her mother's treatment plan would require a month of long-distance travel. Upon sharing this news with the Artingstalls, Thomas provided Debbie with his vehicle to ensure the family would be comfortable on their long drives. Arloah also arranged for the home delivery of a hospital bed and necessary medical equipment to provide the family with added comfort. Debbie shared, "They were very caring and thoughtful people in many ways."

An enduring legacy

Arloah and Thomas were very humble people, never seeking credit or recognition for their acts of service and generosity.

"The Artingstall's impact on our community is remarkable," says Dub Drees, chief philanthropy officer at Providence St. Jude Memorial Foundation, "We will all remember Arloah and Thomas for their quiet generosity. The difference they have made through their support will touch many lives."
